La Trobe Reading Room

I climbed to the upper galleries of the State Library in Melbourne and looked down into the La Trobe Reading Room. From up there the desks radiate from the centre like the spokes of a wheel, and most of them have a reader.

The room opened in 1913 under a dome that was then the largest of its kind in the world. I put the lamp in front so the photograph has a near and a far.
